The University provides its own generative AI (called "ELM") and it's recommended that you use that instead of ChatGPT.
ELM incorporates the ChatGPT model from GPT 4 to GPT 4 turbo, and allows for alterations on settings such as temperature
, top_p
, frequency
, presence
and prompt
. ELM also allows you to upload documents which can be used for training, data manipulation, and so on.
ELM help and links
There is a lot of documentation on ELM, for help with using the tool and getting started, or you can submit a ticket to the IS helpline who have a team for ELM support.
The ethical use of AI for both students and staff must also be considered when you are using ELM, and the University has multiple contingencies in place to detect the fraudulent use of AI.
See ELM here.

Getting credits for ChatGPT
If you request OpenAI credits for use of a ChatGPT Plus account, central procurement will insist that you use ELM instead. You will then have to justify why ELM does not meet your requirements. If you need the ChatGPT API instead, this should be fine to then purchase via IT Procurement.
