10 November - can't reach the rest of the University from DICE

DICE computers this morning cannot communicate with computers elsewhere in the University. We think that IS has made an unexpected change to its DNS settings and we're trying to sort this out with them.
Meanwhile you cannot, for instance, reach https://www.ed.ac.uk from a DICE machine. Sorry; we'll get this resolved ASAP.

The cause has been found, the problem has been fixed, and DICE computers are returning to normal.

When we know of serious problems with the Informatics network, they'll be mentioned here or on Mastodon at mastodon.social/@infalerts.

If the Informatics network fails:

  • Check here if you can
  • Contact the help desk
  • Check mastodon.social/@infalerts

Trouble on the wider University and UK academic networks will be reported in one or more of these places:
  • The IS status and alerts page
  • The UK academic network's issues page
