Software
Computing Support maintains the software on DICE desktops and servers. We can't give you root permission, but you can nevertheless install your own software, or ask Computing Support to add it for you, or ask for help:
- ⇒ Information on software on DICE.
- ⇒ Requesting new software.
- ⇒ Installing Software.
- ⇒ LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Computing support also manages the installation and access to certain pieces of licensed software where these have been purchased for academic use.
You can find help on selected software packages by choosing appropriately-named topics from the 'Choose a topic' menu to the right of this page. We can't provide detailed support on using every piece of software installed on DICE but we can usually offer some general advice.
We provide specific help for a few pieces of software:
- ⇒ Haskell.
- ⇒ Java on DICE.
- ⇒ Intel compilers.
- ⇒ LaTeX.
- ⇒ Python.
- ⇒ Remote software, including MATLAB.
- ⇒ VirtualBox on DICE.
Staff can get personal help with Learning Technology facilities.
We also provide a phone app which you can use to quickly find a free desktop in the student labs:
