Restrictions on encryption

Many countries allow you to bring portable devices through border controls unchallenged, but some countries restrict the use of encryption.

Attempting to take encrypted data or devices to these countries without a licence can result in:

  • the device being confiscated
  • other penalties including imprisonment

Only Windows OS laptops are issued. Macbooks cannot be provided as the T2 chip forces hardware encryption that cannot be removed making them non compliant .
