This page is a brief summary for everyone in Informatics. We all know of internet scams, but there are things that you can look out for, and actively do, to prevent being caught out.

Microsoft Software Licensing

Microsoft software is available through a number of different routes. The following table attempts to list the possible routes available for common situations.

Figures in brackets are the quantity of licences permitted per individual ('n' is unlimited).

wePresent gateways

In the past the School of Informatics was using a gateway to present wirelessly from a device to projectors. This technology was called WePresent, also now known as MirrorOp from Barco.
Our podiums and meeting rooms still show this functionality, in some locations. However, it no longer works and will be removed in the near future. Please do not attempt to use the BYOD, Bring Your Own Device, option when it shows WePresent.

Sleep and Managed Desktop machines

Managed Desktop machines fall asleep after 30 minutes of inactivity. Sleep is a power-saving mode, similar to being switched off, except that the machine can be woken quickly by pressing a key on the keyboard. When the machine wakes it is ready for immediate use - it does not have to go through the boot process again.
