DICE when you're not here

DICE machines have their configuration and their software adjusted every day automatically, with major changes coming once a week. This can't happen when the computer is switched off - so please leave it on.

If you go away for a while, it's safest to leave your DICE computer switched on.

We recommend that any DICE computer which has been switched off for more than two weeks be reinstalled, since the sum of several weeks of configuration changes cannot be guaranteed to work when applied all at once. Computing support can reinstall a DICE computer for you. It's a largely automatic process which may take about half an hour on a 4 year or newer machine. Older ones with spinning disks will take around 2 hours.
