Chrome Remote Desktop

What it does

Google's Chrome Remote Desktop (or "CRD") is a way of sharing control of your remote DICE desktop session with somebody else. (Don't confuse it with our similarly named ⇒ remote desktop service.) We're using it to help facilitate group lab work, to help give participants some interaction and support when we can't provide these sessions face to face on campus.

Desktop Finder

Desktop Finder helps you quickly find a lab with free desktops.

Limitations

  • It only works on eduroam wifi - not mobile data.
  • It's only for students with an account in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh.

Course Software

Teaching Software on DICE

It is very important that software is installed, tested and distributed as early as possible before the start of teaching, so as to avoid any compatibility problems with DICE. We preserve versions of key software, once finalized, throughout the session (and until after any laboratory examinations) to ensure that students keep a consistent environment. Each year new teaching staff will be prompted to request or update any teaching software they use: look out for these messages from the PIP system.
