If you are in the School of Informatics and organising an event for which network access will be needed, this is what to do:

  • The conditions and laws governing network access are summarised in the Self-managed and personal machines policy. This applies to event participants too. You must read that page and be aware of its contents.
  • Wired network access can be arranged by the technicians and computing support. They will need to know what connectivity is required so that they can enable the correct ports for the correct subnets. This can take time to organise so please do this in good time. Once your network access has been arranged please test it to make sure that it does what you need.
  • For wireless access read Arranging wireless access for visitors on the Wireless network page.
  • On the day, make sure that robust, auditable arrangements are in place:
    • to ensure that people at the meeting are made aware of the rules, and
    • to keep a register of which attendees used which particular network resources.
  • You will be held responsible for all network use by the event's participants. In particular you will be the first port of call if the University's Incident Response Team or the auditors ask questions.
