Notable changes from Ubuntu Focal
Most software on Jammy is compatible with the versions on Focal, but more up to date.
Notable changes include:
- PHP: Jammy provides PHP 8. If your software needs PHP 7, you should stick with Ubuntu Focal for now.
- MATE: This is our default desktop environment, and it's the one you'll always get when using remote desktop. Ubuntu Jammy has a more recent version (1.26) than Focal (1.24). If you have changed the theme, you may have to reset it when you log in to a Jammy desktop session after a desktop session on Focal. (You can change the theme using System → Preferences → Look and Feel → Appearance.)
- CUDA/cuDNN: Selected cuda versions are available and are periodically updated. As of August 2024, 11.8.0 and 12.5.0 are provided by default, and other versions are available on request.
