Using ssh from iOS

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

iOS is the operating system for Apple's personal devices such as iPhones. The iOS App Store offers a choice of ssh apps, and these can be used to login to Informatics machines. Highly rated ssh apps include Termius, WebSSH and Prompt 2.

Once your app is installed it will request connection details. Our page on External login servers lists the hostnames you should use when logging in from outside the Informatics network.

For security we normally recommend the use of GSSAPI (Kerberos) authentication with ssh, but this is not available on iOS. Instead please keep your DICE password secure and take care when entering it each time you login - we do not advise storing your password on your iOS device.

For background reading see the pages on Connecting from outside the University and on How to secure a mobile device.
