DICE when you're not here

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

DICE machines have their configuration and their software adjusted every day automatically, with major changes coming once a week. This can't happen when the computer is switched off - so please leave it on.

If you go away for a while, it's safest to leave your DICE computer switched on. It will then sleep most of the time, saving energy, and will wake up only when it needs to adjust its configuration. While it's asleep you can wake it up remotely when you need access to it.

We recommend that any DICE computer which has been switched off for more than two weeks be reinstalled, since the sum of several weeks of configuration changes cannot be guaranteed to work when applied all at once. Computing support can reinstall a DICE computer for you. It's a largely automatic process which may take about half an hour.
