SDXC and exFAT

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Some data transfer devices, for example SDXC cards, are formatted with Microsoft's exFAT filesystem. Not all computers offer exFAT support. In particular, DICE does not support exFAT because of legal restrictions.

Most Windows versions support exFAT (see wikipedia for a list). On Macs, OS X has supported exFAT since version 10.6.5. Some versions of Linux, for example Debian, offer exFAT support. The University has Windows machines in Open Access labs in many locations including the ground and first floors of Appleton Tower.
