Edinburgh University CA Certificate

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

A small number of web sites in Informatics use certificates which are signed by the University's CA certificate.

Certificates are used in https web sites to ensure that anyone visiting that site can be sure it is genuine and can be trusted.

The University CA certificate is not installed in web browsers by default and so visiting a website which uses such a certificate will likely cause a browser to warn that that site is insecure or not trusted. The solution to this is to install the CA certificate as a trusted Certificate Authority (CA) in web browsers.

Edinburgh University Information Services maintains documentation on certificates and on how to install the University CA certificate into web browsers.
